End Game

The world is black. And then you blink at your plate.

A portion of your favorite dish greets your eyes, albeit in a form you may never have seen it in before. Encased in a thick, wobbling layer of multi-colored gelatin, the food you know and love now sits suspended in its protein-based enclosure as an eccentric re-imagining of the dish. Furthermore, it only takes a glance to see that the rest of the dining table's spread shares this same theme, as every single dish, sweet or savory, finds itself victim to a jiggling Jell-o jail.

Still, you won't have much time to take this all in before a quiet, high-pitched giggling makes its way to your ears, only crescendoing in volume the longer you sit in this oh-so-familiar dining room. It doesn't take much to find the source of the sound either; unlike the other side, this place is absolutely teeming with fairies to the point where the fluttering of their iridescent wings is clearly audible behind the din of their laughter. As you come to your senses, dozens and dozens of beady eyes watch with their tiny faces stretched out in a wide grin, before speaking in unison.

"Welcome, we can't wait to serve you!"

As the fairies erupt in raucous laughter all around you, at least one more thing is readily apparent: however you met your end, your body is completely whole again. You also have company at the table with you, although whether it's desirable company or not may depend on the circumstances surrounding your death.

In any case, there's nothing stopping anyone from leaving the dining room and roaming freely as usual, and most of the same areas that were available to you on the other side are still present here, albeit with some differences. And though your life may have been stolen from you, it still looks like you have a part in this tale, somehow, someway.

So, will you let your story finish here, or will you write your own ending?

[ Once the meeting is over, Nageki can be found at the gelateria with pistachio gelato and stationary, serenely writing with rather cold eyes. Anyone who tries to look over his shoulder will find drafts of letters addressed to a Hitori, as well as something else continuously scribbled out?

Much later on, he can be found directly under a tree at the ranch, standing on a horse's saddle. Yes, it's attached to an actual real live horse--amazing, isn't it? He looks very confused at this turn of events. ]

[Ah. He doesn't want to interrupt, but he also doesn't want to peek, so he just kind of sits here until Nageki notices him on his own.]

Are you busy?

[libirdian]

[ It doesn't take him long to pause, especially since at this point, he's simply scribbling out more on an increasingly redacted paper. His eyes certainly look much softer now that he put his pen down. ]

Not especially. Did you have something to ask?

I wanted to know how you were doing
We spent most of our first conversation getting me up to speed
And I didn't really get a chance to ask

[libirdian]

[ Yeah, he has a point there. Normally they wouldn't be in that much of a rush, but this Sunday was a special occasion for many reasons. ]

...My apologies. I was in a hurry, and that wasn't fair to you.

[ He looks away for a moment after that, thinking how to answer. ]

I'm as fine as can be, considering everything that's happened. We've banded together into...a rather unorthodox anti-mirror group. [ One way to put it at least. ] What about you? How have you been?

It's been good seeing some people again
This wasn't the way I'd prefer to do it though

I don't think it should be anybirdie's preferred way, to be fair. I'd have questions for whoever says otherwise.

[ Especially considering what actually goes on here in the graveyard. ]

It's definitely an interesting place
And I'm glad C-ta's made more friends

[libirdian]

[ Insert multiple flashbacks of C-ta being absolutely ridiculous in the graveyard and crime family enabling a lot of shenanigans. ]

I think he'd vehemently deny that I'm a friend, but he certainly works well with almost everybirdie here.

He says a lot of things
But you can tell from the way he talks about you that he cares
I'm glad, I was worried about him

[C-ta's just dumb sometimes.]

[ Well, this is... an odd sight, isn't it? The horses definitely remind her of Nagumo-san and Dance but she puts the thought away. It's a bit hard to say goodbyes when she's laughing. ]

What're you doing?

[libirdian]

[ He's trying to stay as stock still as he can to not spook the horse, but he does his best to answer anyway. ]

I was gliding down from the tree when this horse just....stopped here for some reason? I couldn't adjust my landing in time so now I'm here.

[lastreward]

The weirdest coincidences sure happen around here, huh? [ She stays where she is because her presence probably won't help? Well, if he asks for it is another matter. ]

[libirdian]

Yes, I'm still not sure why they stopped--

[ As he says that last word, the horse starts...trying to canter away? Well, that's not good. Looks like he's being birdnapped. ]

[lastreward]

-- Ah.

[ Okay well, good time as any to go get horsie to stop and she'll give it lot of pats and stuff. Is this horse like those other animals though? Will Nageki just phase through it.... ]

[libirdian]

[ Well, he did what most panicked birds would do and flapped his way to the ground! But thanks to Sami he'll avoid accidentally getting whacked by it or something just as awkward. Not that he doesn't feel awkward as is. Wow, this is embarrassing. ]

...I don't understand animals.

[lastreward]

[ she laughs again at that, holding onto the horse, who's prolly trying to take a bite out of her hair. ]

I suppose misunderstanding happens the most when you can't understand each other, huh?

[libirdian]

...The joys of communication.

[ He'll slowly go closer to help because yes, let's not leave Sami to the fate of hair munching. ]

Though I'd rather have it than live without it.

[lastreward]

I guess that's how the world of animals is so eat or be eaten.... well, humans operate similarly too, huh?

[ She pats the horse quietly. ]

[mearry]

[ c-ta steps into the gelateria with the intention of getting ice cream. instead, he gets a nageki.

quietly, he walks up to him, and then behind the counter to serve himself. ]

You got pistachio again?

[libirdian]

[ It takes him a moment, but he'll look up once he senses another presence around, looking wary. Once he notices C-ta, he'll relax and set down his pen to pick up his half-melted ice cream again. ]

I liked it more than I thought. So I thought I might as well grab more before this all ends.

You won’t be able to have ice cream when you go back home?

[libirdian]

Yes, I'd have an inability to eat again. Just another ghostly characteristic.

[mearry]

…

[ he frowns. ]

There has to be something we can do here, Nageki. You can’t just…remain a ghost!

[libirdian]

[ Blink, blink. Looking rather confused at that. ]

I'm not sure what can be done? I've been a ghost for years now before this.
