GRAVEYARD

The world is black. And then you blink at your plate.

A portion of your favorite dish greets your eyes, albeit in a form you may never have seen it in before. Encased in a thick, wobbling layer of multi-colored gelatin, the food you know and love now sits suspended in its protein-based enclosure as an eccentric re-imagining of the dish. Furthermore, it only takes a glance to see that the rest of the dining table's spread shares this same theme, as every single dish, sweet or savory, finds itself victim to a jiggling Jell-o jail.

Still, you won't have much time to take this all in before a quiet, high-pitched giggling makes its way to your ears, only crescendoing in volume the longer you sit in this oh-so-familiar dining room. It doesn't take much to find the source of the sound either; unlike the other side, this place is absolutely teeming with fairies to the point where the fluttering of their iridescent wings is clearly audible behind the din of their laughter. As you come to your senses, dozens and dozens of beady eyes watch with their tiny faces stretched out in a wide grin, before speaking in unison.

"Welcome, we can't wait to serve you!"

As the fairies erupt in raucous laughter all around you, at least one more thing is readily apparent: however you met your end, your body is completely whole again. You also have company at the table with you, although whether it's desirable company or not may depend on the circumstances surrounding your death.

In any case, there's nothing stopping anyone from leaving the dining room and roaming freely as usual, and most of the same areas that were available to you on the other side are still present here, albeit with some differences. And though your life may have been stolen from you, it still looks like you have a part in this tale, somehow, someway.

So, will you let your story finish here, or will you write your own ending?

[Ah. He doesn't want to interrupt, but he also doesn't want to peek, so he just kind of sits here until Nageki notices him on his own.]

Hi Are you busy?

[ It doesn't take him long to pause, especially since at this point, he's simply scribbling out more on an increasingly redacted paper. His eyes certainly look much softer now that he put his pen down. ]

Not especially. Did you have something to ask?

I wanted to know how you were doing We spent most of our first conversation getting me up to speed And I didn't really get a chance to ask

[ Yeah, he has a point there. Normally they wouldn't be in that much of a rush, but this Sunday was a special occasion for many reasons. ]

...My apologies. I was in a hurry, and that wasn't fair to you.

[ He looks away for a moment after that, thinking how to answer. ]

I'm as fine as can be, considering everything that's happened. We've banded together into...a rather unorthodox anti-mirror group. [ One way to put it at least. ] What about you? How have you been?

Up and down It's been good seeing some people again This wasn't the way I'd prefer to do it though

I don't think it should be anybirdie's preferred way, to be fair. I'd have questions for whoever says otherwise.

[ Especially considering what actually goes on here in the graveyard. ]

It's definitely an interesting place And I'm glad C-ta's made more friends

[ Insert multiple flashbacks of C-ta being absolutely ridiculous in the graveyard and crime family enabling a lot of shenanigans. ]

I think he'd vehemently deny that I'm a friend, but he certainly works well with almost everybirdie here.

He says a lot of things But you can tell from the way he talks about you that he cares I'm glad, I was worried about him

[C-ta's just dumb sometimes.]

He sure does.

[ Can't deny that. ]

While we didn't want the opportunity to come like this, we did want him to go talk to you. He tends to make...sudden leaps of logic and act quickly, and you're rather adept at holding him back and keeping him grounded. So thank you for that.

[ Because...yup, that meeting sure was a thing. ]

I wrote a letter and put it in the fountain hoping it would reach him Since that's where we first found your letters Thinking about it, it's a little embarrassing now Wouldn't it have been unreadable even if it got to you?

Oh...it probably would've been hard to read if you put it directly in the water, but I think he'd still be really happy with that if it passed through.

[ Understatement. ]

It's too bad we still don't the exact way our letters are sent...

I got Tenn to send it directly after that He thought it might have been a prank? Apparently fairies copy our handwriting sometimes?

Yes, there's at least one letter that wasn't from us? I remember Miss Asahina being adamant about sending only one in particular... But I haven't heard of any fake letters recently.

Really? So that very angry note about Moriarty changing her first letter wasn't from her? But it would've had to have been from someone who knew it was changed and by who...

Oh. That was from her. It was absolutely from her. [ Yeah, he was pretty floored by that too. ] But the other letter from the second week wasn't from her or Miss Zola, if I'm remembering right.

That's weird I guess we were right to doubt some of your letters

If it wasn't mentioned in the majority of letters, chances are it's either a more personal letter, an individual observation, or somebirdie going off the rails.

Yes. I think Mister Ichimaru was poking fun at how much more brains we needed for puzzles.

That's fair I'm not sure if we even solved that one correctly But I guess we must have gotten some of that right

I think everybirdie at least got the most important part? That we needed a math tutor.

[ He wasn't involved in that puzzle, but well, he can understand the frustration with them since he's been involved with every one after he joined the dead. ]

I thought you thought Moriarty was suspicious I guess that's just me disliking him, though

[He wasn't... super sad to see Moriarty die, even for self-defense...]
