It's been a long stay.

Seven weeks have elapsed since the gates to Aira Niluc were opened to guests of various worlds, and for seven weeks a game of trust and betrayal have whittled the living's numbers down until only a mere third remained on that side. And in exchange, the population of the dead grew as they continued their story on this side.

But the story is coming to a close, almost as if the world itself demands it.

Because sometime Friday morning, oddities start to become apparent within the fabric of this space: buildings starting to deteriorate as their colors start to fade, foods beginning to molder and rot, trees and mountains far in the background flickering briefly show sketch-like outlines before reverting back to normal. While most of the main locations remain fairly intact, there is no area on this side that lays untouched by the sense that this place is starting to unravel, bit-by-bit.

Still, the walls that separate you all from the living hold fast even now, not allowing any of the dead to cross through into the other side.

Perhaps that's not the point here, though. After all, you all still have your own ending to write, here and now.

RIFTWATCH: FINAL INVEST (DUNDUN)

[It's a familiar feeling -- gathering around earlyish on a Friday morning to unravel a mystery, though now it's much more like the world is unraveling itself around them, the mystery slowly pulling apart at the seams with them inside it. Surely this is fine. Time for the dead to distract themselves from the faint fridge horror going on in the background!

[Jack has brought a tea set as though on reflex, let us hope that the tea remains uncontaminated and uneldritch, because it really would be a pity not to have anything to go with what may be their final entertainment ever?

He's keeping a close eye on this particular group, for several reasons, though his countenance is still relaxed and faintly amused.]

Edelgard and Makoto to supervise, hmm? I wonder, really, who is keeping watch on who here.

[She's following Makoto and Yuri, dressed in a new gown something like this but with a more reasonable train that doesn't actually touch the ground. Her knives, as always, remain around her waist, along with baggies of salt and other supplies probably, I'm at work and my lunch is over SHE HAS STUFF TRUST ME.]

Just what was she after...?

[Aside from salt, Suga doesn't have too much of interest, though he has also dressed for the occasion.

Oh, and there's the clearly horrible and eldritch bagel he's munching on, Suga why are you eating that-]

I hope the eye's not a problem
I didn't think he'd have to deal with it for more than a weekend

He'll put our common goals over everything else
And he doesn't judge people without reason

Oh, Edelgard's certainly much better at passing sweeping judgments, but I daresay she's also good with decisions and... smashing things?

[Jack just looks increasingly amused at their trying to make assessments through the rift (why is this apparently their common hobby now); meanwhile everyone on the other side is being very polite, so is this roasting really deserved.

Well, it's Edelgard, so anyway.]

Makoto always does interesting things, so this should be entertaining, at the least.

[They probably won't even get eaten by anything, unlike literally everyone on this side.]

I hope she only smashes things that need to be smashed

Judging by everyone this past week, I think the smashing extends pretty far...

[Is smashing the same thing as arson now. But hey, it's not like they can judge what should be smashed or burnt or exploded or caned from here, so maybe like, the birds are evil and Edelgard should really be going to town on those hairbrushes??

Jack isn't going to judge! He is not quite as protective over Hamelin's incidental decorations as McGillis.]

Was that secret door always there? I wonder why he has left his office undefended...

On the same day that we normally have a corpse or two, on the same day that Ferry has something to say to us... Well, that's a lot of coincidences, I must say.

[It probably isn't a coincidence.

But Jack also isn't committing to being especially serious about it -- one will end up with grey hairs worrying about things before it's time, and he doesn't have a single grey hair on him, so too bad. Then the bed comes into view and he bursts out laughing at McGillis' face. He really doesn't need to hear anything to see that.]

Ah, I almost feel bad. I really didn't need to be quite that bad at making a bed, did I? Well, what he doesn't know won't hurt.

[Jack did you fake the entire bed check. Shshhhh. Hidden lore.]

[ Madame Non-Sequitur is here for the final show and has regained her composure, apparently?? In something fancier than even her usual dress and crown. ]

Oho? But I’ll have you recall, Lucifer made an absolutely perfect bed right there in front of everyone! Why, he even fixed the pillows.

Truly an example to all of us.

[It’s not actually mocking but he is half-laughing as he says it, just. Remembering how ridiculously spic & span the bed looked the entire time?!? Seriously, what are their lives here.]

Well, who wouldn’t? Under that circumstance. Though, it is not as though many of us could make an absolutely perfect one at any rate…

[No hotel corners for him! But he does know what a good bed looks like. For the most part.

So that means the caporegime squad run the gamut of bed making too, doesn’t it……]

Ha-ha, I wouldn’t go quite that far. William had quite a fright that time, didn’t he?
