GRAVEYARD - END GAME

It's been a long stay.

Seven weeks have elapsed since the gates to Aira Niluc were opened to guests of various worlds, and for seven weeks a game of trust and betrayal have whittled the living's numbers down until only a mere third remained on that side. And in exchange, the population of the dead grew as they continued their story on this side.

But the story is coming to a close, almost as if the world itself demands it.

Because sometime Friday morning, oddities start to become apparent within the fabric of this space: buildings starting to deteriorate as their colors start to fade, foods beginning to molder and rot, trees and mountains far in the background flickering briefly show sketch-like outlines before reverting back to normal. While most of the main locations remain fairly intact, there is no area on this side that lays untouched by the sense that this place is starting to unravel, bit-by-bit.

Still, the walls that separate you all from the living hold fast even now, not allowing any of the dead to cross through into the other side.

Perhaps that's not the point here, though. After all, you all still have your own ending to write, here and now.

I don't know why we suspected him for so long Moriarty isn't nearly scary enough to take down Yor

[That doesn't seem quite right? Though, he doesn't find Moriarty particularly scary either so it's really just Yor at this point. Maybe he is biased.]

It probably depends on the person...? Yor is far scarier than both of them.

[He's definitely biased. But it's an idle musing as he watches the investigation go on. He will peer interestedly at the music sheet, though given the rift isn't especially high-def he probably wouldn't be able to sight-read from it, even if he had an instrument handy... an oversight.

What if he brought a fucking violin to endgame. What if!!!!

Anyway, then his eyes get caught on that one note and he huffs a laugh at the exact same time as McGillis chuckles at it.]

Our Don really is a scatterbrain sometimes...

[ he hums, trying to keep himself from saying “yes”. ]

Well, it depends. Things like fear are different for every person, so it isn’t my place to say who you should be afraid of…

Why does that sound suspiciously like 'but I think you should be afraid of someone'

I mean Dying is bad You should take all possible steps to avoid that But if I got scared everytime someone directed murderous intent at me I wouldn't be able to set foot in my backyard? You kind of get used to it

Oh, he told us after you were relieved of your role.

It seemed a true disappointment to him -- though not a surprise.

[Jack just gives Raven a little smile; maybe surprisingly, there's nothing particularly mocking in it or anything. He does still seem straightforwardly amused, though. There's a thoughtful hum.]

I don't think it was a surprise to any of us. The bonds of the past and those you've known far longer than these mere months here would easily outweigh anything else. That is how this game is played.

[Raven's mortification fizzles out at this, settling on that familiar shame from weeks' past.]

I really did have a heavy heart betrayin' Red like that- it was nothin' personal. But now I gotta wonder... Why did he give me a role that went against his own game?

Hamelin is good at that, yes. Giving such silly impressions of himself, that is, and doing strange, strange things like playing the hero to his own villain.

I can’t say I entirely understand it myself — but he is a strange man.

[There’s something that might almost be fondness there, or might be exasperation. Underneath the lingering amusement it’s hard to tell.]

And I’ll have you remember that this is not his own game, Raven, but a game in which he has a role himself like any other. The fact that he is an overseer does not change that fact.

Just as you put your stamp on your own role, perhaps, so did he. You are not so different, in the end.
