It's been a long stay.

Seven weeks have elapsed since the gates to Aira Niluc were opened to guests of various worlds, and for seven weeks a game of trust and betrayal have whittled the living's numbers down until only a mere third remained on that side. And in exchange, the population of the dead grew as they continued their story on this side.

But the story is coming to a close, almost as if the world itself demands it.

Because sometime Friday morning, oddities start to become apparent within the fabric of this space: buildings starting to deteriorate as their colors start to fade, foods beginning to molder and rot, trees and mountains far in the background flickering briefly show sketch-like outlines before reverting back to normal. While most of the main locations remain fairly intact, there is no area on this side that lays untouched by the sense that this place is starting to unravel, bit-by-bit.

Still, the walls that separate you all from the living hold fast even now, not allowing any of the dead to cross through into the other side.

Perhaps that's not the point here, though. After all, you all still have your own ending to write, here and now.

[Just, going to make sure he doesn't have any spiders on him from that trick before, actually. There are way too many bugs in this realm even for him -- that's the other thing to be thankful about not dealing with the Beldam, let's be real.

I do hope the doll bodies do not look like that somehow.

Thankfully they don't. They look almost exactly like us, but with its eyes replaced by buttons. [ it makes his skin crawl just thinking about it. ] But I really don't want to live the rest of my life with buttons for eyes, to be honest.

... How would you even see?

Sensei, are you still trying to use logic in this place? We just fought a giant moth that breathed fire.

I'd like to see that on my next biology test then. A fire-breathing moth...

[ tired finger wagging because adrenaline crashing is real - he's just trying to stay awake so he can watch the rift otherwise he'd have passed out by now ]

[ eh. he's had enough of pre-calculus and geometry and whatever but...he misses school. he misses having an ordinary life. ]

Were you still a professor...? Before you died?

[ that gets a quiet but maybe slightly melancholic laugh out of william and maybe a slight pause. ]

Something like that. I think the university might have fired me before then on account of being a named mass murderer. I wasn't really paying attention.

Well, I still don't know if myself and others may have been placed in such odd bodies in the first place... But perhaps the buttons for eyes are not noticeable in that form?

[What if he's had buttons for eyes the entire time.

I don't know if that's better or worse........

[ like on one hand, yay body. on the other hand........possibly being aware that you're in a doll's body? ]

At least it is human-shaped?

[The optimism is so much. Possibly he has spent some time contemplating life in a doll body, or he's just used to souls ending up in strange containers or forms.

The afterlife really is a whole other ballgame in a place like this, when you get down to it.]

That's true... we still don't really know how we're even going to get back to our bodies...so I guess a plan B isn't too bad.

[ even if it means being a doll. ]

Judging by the chaos on the other side, having a few Plan B's never goes amiss.

[He's not roasting the other side so much as like. The Beldam looks like a pain and a half. Gosh. Jack's quiet for a long moment at the question and then laughs a little.]

[ he waves his hand lazily in the air, before it flops back down on his side like a puppet whose strings have been cut.

he speaks quietly, hoping that this is something that only reaches jack's ears. ]

I have a chance to get my act together...but the more I think about it...the less sure I am. I'm still as empty as I was before, deep down.

[ he's letting himself cling to suga, but who knows what will happen if that is taken from him. when that is taken from him. ]

The notions of buttons sewn onto my eyes...it is unpleasant to think of having them even now, as a spirit.

[ and she had them the entire time she was on the living side??? what the fuck ]

Ah. Are you also suspecting your living body of being a doll?

[He's still just over here like NBD?? You couldn't tell there was fluff or buttons or anything so.

Possibly he's still too nonchalant about this.]

Perhaps. I am a divine spirit, so I would not be terribly surprised if it was necessary to put me into a physical container of sorts in order for me to be killed.

[ She seems far more okay with that than she does with button eyes?? ]
