End Game

The world is black. And then you blink at your plate.

A portion of your favorite dish greets your eyes, albeit in a form you may never have seen it in before. Encased in a thick, wobbling layer of multi-colored gelatin, the food you know and love now sits suspended in its protein-based enclosure as an eccentric re-imagining of the dish. Furthermore, it only takes a glance to see that the rest of the dining table's spread shares this same theme, as every single dish, sweet or savory, finds itself victim to a jiggling Jell-o jail.

Still, you won't have much time to take this all in before a quiet, high-pitched giggling makes its way to your ears, only crescendoing in volume the longer you sit in this oh-so-familiar dining room. It doesn't take much to find the source of the sound either; unlike the other side, this place is absolutely teeming with fairies to the point where the fluttering of their iridescent wings is clearly audible behind the din of their laughter. As you come to your senses, dozens and dozens of beady eyes watch with their tiny faces stretched out in a wide grin, before speaking in unison.

"Welcome, we can't wait to serve you!"

As the fairies erupt in raucous laughter all around you, at least one more thing is readily apparent: however you met your end, your body is completely whole again. You also have company at the table with you, although whether it's desirable company or not may depend on the circumstances surrounding your death.

In any case, there's nothing stopping anyone from leaving the dining room and roaming freely as usual, and most of the same areas that were available to you on the other side are still present here, albeit with some differences. And though your life may have been stolen from you, it still looks like you have a part in this tale, somehow, someway.

So, will you let your story finish here, or will you write your own ending?

I don’t get it. What’s the point of that stupid thing betraying us?

All I can think of is, she might be trying to throw us under the bus to get herself out of a bad deal.

[ Not that he's convinced she's telling the truth anymore... ]

You think we could figure out a way to escape through that rift instead?

I don’t know. No one was able to get it to open, right?

[ he shrugs? ]

Unless someone wants to get bombs.

I don't know how bombs are gonna be any better than salted iron knives.

[mearry]

Not everything has to do with fairies, is my thought. But it was just a suggestion.

And even more importantly, what're we going to do about it?

[mearry]

Any chance we can intimidate them into working for us?

Depends. How powerful are they now with those "seals" now, I wonder, or if it's all a bluff.

I assume they're still weak to salt.

[mearry]

No, I don’t think it’s a bluff. I used the stone to look at them and they were basically sparkling with white light.

[ … ]

Salt might work. Maybe an iron weapon to keep them down. [ … ] But it doesn’t make sense. None of the information we’ve gotten seems to be fake either. I’m not stupid enough to believe that they’re going to help us free of charge but… are they one hundred percent loyal to the…void thing?

[lastreward]

Well that note seems to indictate they're doing their thing too.

[mearry]

Then maybe we can sway them our way. Or maybe it doesn’t matter. We found a thing of our own too. It was a thing that said “she’ll handle her appearance herself”. So either Ferry is pretending to be a fairy, somehow, or… I don’t know. [ he shrugs. ] Didn’t they say they weren’t from this world?

Yup, that's what they said. Makes some sense, I suppose. The creature sure likes to use different sort of pawns.

[mearry]

Hm.

[ he looks at the note again, humming. ]

I don’t know if this is related, but… there is a workshop with life-sized dolls of us dead.

[heroicact]

Eh? Is Ferry truly weak to salt and iron?

[purefuries]

...is there a reason why they would not be? They are a fairy, are they not?

[heroicact]

So far as I know, she is different from the other fairies as she was not created by the mistress of the mirrors. I don’t know for certain, but Hamelin was under the impression that she should have melted by now if she were weak to those elements. How would she handle her own merchandise?

[mearry]

[ he’s smacking himself in the head. god fucking dammit. ]

[ thinking about it ]

Ah, a fine observation. The fairies from my own realm do not possess any such weaknesses, so perhaps Ferry is of a similar make. Or perhaps they are not a fairy at all.

[mearry]

[ fuck, he’s right. ]

We’ve never had a reason to fight Ferry. I’m not sure.

Could she overpower all of us?

They did talk about teaming up against Hamelin...]

That… depends upon what her powers are, whether she is an immortal, and all manner of other possibilities.

What have you all observed about her abilities?

[mearry]

I don’t know about specific stuff, but when I saw her through the stone, I saw a bunch of bluish sparkles around her…it was really dense and would even be like a little bit blinding…kind of like looking at a pure white figure. But the figure was her’s so… I don’t think we’re dealing with something like an extension of B or whatever.

[ he laughs a bit. ]

She said that she was going to “use magic” to get our bodies back. But like I said before, she could just be looking to stuff our souls into the dolls or something.

[heroicact]

And I imagine that this strange bluish light hasn't been seen anywhere else?

I think we can safely say, for the most part, that Ferry is an existence independent of B -- that is what all our information seems to point to. What we don't know is just what type of power she's trying to get, and her true purpose...

[Humming thoughtfully.]

Has she demonstrated an ability to put souls back into bodies before?

[laytorest]

Not... very much. She doesn't join us when we look for the seals. When I went, she stayed outside while we solved the puzzles in the cave with all the treasures.

Not very much at all, then. I wonder if asking her to demonstrate some of her abilities for us should be part of our agenda going forward.
