End Game

The world is black. And then you blink at your plate.

A portion of your favorite dish greets your eyes, albeit in a form you may never have seen it in before. Encased in a thick, wobbling layer of multi-colored gelatin, the food you know and love now sits suspended in its protein-based enclosure as an eccentric re-imagining of the dish. Furthermore, it only takes a glance to see that the rest of the dining table's spread shares this same theme, as every single dish, sweet or savory, finds itself victim to a jiggling Jell-o jail.

Still, you won't have much time to take this all in before a quiet, high-pitched giggling makes its way to your ears, only crescendoing in volume the longer you sit in this oh-so-familiar dining room. It doesn't take much to find the source of the sound either; unlike the other side, this place is absolutely teeming with fairies to the point where the fluttering of their iridescent wings is clearly audible behind the din of their laughter. As you come to your senses, dozens and dozens of beady eyes watch with their tiny faces stretched out in a wide grin, before speaking in unison.

"Welcome, we can't wait to serve you!"

As the fairies erupt in raucous laughter all around you, at least one more thing is readily apparent: however you met your end, your body is completely whole again. You also have company at the table with you, although whether it's desirable company or not may depend on the circumstances surrounding your death.

In any case, there's nothing stopping anyone from leaving the dining room and roaming freely as usual, and most of the same areas that were available to you on the other side are still present here, albeit with some differences. And though your life may have been stolen from you, it still looks like you have a part in this tale, somehow, someway.

So, will you let your story finish here, or will you write your own ending?

[The central door it is, then! Anyways, as they approach, they'll notice the surrounding wall around the door is very much blank, similar to the inside of the shrine. In contrast, the door is rather elaborately adorned, with the left one showing an elaborately carved tree while the right one has a carving of a stylized eye.

There's two round cavities at about waist-level, with one on each door.]

[A tree... and an eye?]

We need ta put somethin' in, I assume. It seems too early ta use a magnifying glass ta check the images too...

[Is there any marks or remnants of anything in the cavities if Gin peeks in them?]

[Nope! they seem completely smooth.]

[ JAMS THE GEM INTO THE MARK ok now he's gonna figure out how to roll

[ moriarty's jammed the other gem in too! brb trying to not die ]

[Click! As both the gems fit nicely into the slot, the door seems to glow for a brief moment before the two carvings on the individual doors light up.

A shift in the atmosphere changes as the fire in the hallway thankfully goes out and the flames on Lucifer are safely extinguished. Any wounds obtained during these trials will remain, but at least they're probably safe for the moment.]

[ all in agreement to take a fucking breather before they decide to all tempt fate again????? ]

[ In agreement! But before that, Nageki doesn't even bother to wait just in case, he's running to check on Lucifer straight away. ]

Mister Lucifer, are you ok-- Conscious? Can you move?

[ Yeah, he really should've bought potions from Ferry last week. ]

[oversaw]

[ nageki is a good bird! he's still on the floor and the fire has been extinguished! how many wings he has left is........

you know, it's fine. he had spares ]

I'm conscious. If you give me some time, I should be able to recover. Thank you for your concern, Nageki. [ he turns over to look over nageki, though it takes a moment ] How are the rest of you?

[ how's moriarty's team?? looking at them too ]

[Sort of... gingerly pats away from the wings!]

Well, we may have to do something about these, but I thank you for your end of the race, Lucifer. That fire was looking rather foreboding for a few moments...

[oversaw]

[ ty jack, the comfort helps! lucifer pats at his hand, attempting to console him in kind ]

They'll recover in time. [ like, if he dies later. meh? he wants to see this through to the end so he'll stick with this for now. and start sitting up. with effort but, meh, ignore that. ] I'm glad I could assist you—and that the fire dissipated when the gems were placed.

Though this does make me wonder what's past these doors.

We are-- [ there is a wince there. he is definitely still bleeding, although the makeshift bandages are helping! somewhat! so he's not bleeding all over the place, thankfully. so maybe about 30-40% HP reduction? this is Fine. ]

We all made it out, although as you can see, not quite completely whole. There were creatures intent on ripping us to shreds in the dark down the other corridor. We should be fine, though. I plan on getting some potions or elixirs from the store later.

Is everyone...?

[ poor moriarty... he shakes his head. ]

That seems wise. I wish I had some to offer, but I'm afraid the only thing I have is this. [ gonna give them his weird skirt thing for more bandages!! it's probably fine, if singed or burnt or whatever. ]

It should make for a decent bandage.

[Hey Nageki, Pericles is literally hovering around you looking for injuries because you were literally in a hallway on fire why did iT HAVE TO BE LIKE THAT-]

Are you vell? Do you have trouble valking? Any serious burns or anysing? I am more zan villing to help you wis anysing troubling you-

[ Ah, it's been a while since someone worried about his health like that. It's almost a little nostalgic now, especially considering he's coughing a bit from the smoke. ]

I'm fine, professor--the area in front of the mural was safe. Mister Lucifer wasn't there though, so he got caught up in the...conflagration.

[ Ugh, he really should remember to take things more literally here. ]

Are you okay? What happened on the other end?

Oh sank gootness...

[That was somehow even more terrifying than dying. He knew Nageki could just come back if he did get killed, but that didn't change how horrible of an experience it would be. Fire or even just smoke inhalation weren't pretty ways to go, and he didn't want to repeat this sort of thing again.

At the question, Pericles sighs as he lands on Nageki's shoulder.]

Somesing similar. A message zat woult produce a gemstone, but once sait gemstone vas taken, caused the hall to go pitch black as clawing creatures tried to attack us.

['You know, no big deal,' he thinks, makeshift bandages littering his body.]

[Ah, good, he doesn't have to do anything for Lucifer just yet.

Time to call off down the green hallway for the welfare of that group!!]

Samidare-chan? Nageki-kun, Jack-kun?

Shockingly, I think the fire only caught Lucifer... Thanks to everyone's quick actions.

[They're probably all looking mildly smoked but hey.

He still has all his limbs and his clothes and his bombs about him, and everyone else still has their limbs and so on, so they're coming out ahead??]

[Well the other group makes quite the sight in contrast, covered in cuts and scratches from whatever haunts the dark when you're dead. Gin doesn't act particularly affected, even if he's rougher than when you left him.]

My my, luck was on your side then I take it.

[Even if... not lucifer's]

[ She coughs into her sleeve, probably from all the fire and smoke singeing her throat probably making her voice hoarse. ] I think maybe a reset after would be cheaper than trying to get potions....

Nothing explosive I was carrying got set off... That would've been an even more unfortunate chain reaction.

[ Some singed feathers and coughing, but seems otherwise fine! ]

...Somethin' tells me that would've been useful behind the other door.

[Maybe light would have made the darkness retreat a bit? Ah well.]

I suppose it doesn't matter now, just that we continue on.
