End Game

The world is black. And then you blink at your plate.

A portion of your favorite dish greets your eyes, albeit in a form you may never have seen it in before. Encased in a thick, wobbling layer of multi-colored gelatin, the food you know and love now sits suspended in its protein-based enclosure as an eccentric re-imagining of the dish. Furthermore, it only takes a glance to see that the rest of the dining table's spread shares this same theme, as every single dish, sweet or savory, finds itself victim to a jiggling Jell-o jail.

Still, you won't have much time to take this all in before a quiet, high-pitched giggling makes its way to your ears, only crescendoing in volume the longer you sit in this oh-so-familiar dining room. It doesn't take much to find the source of the sound either; unlike the other side, this place is absolutely teeming with fairies to the point where the fluttering of their iridescent wings is clearly audible behind the din of their laughter. As you come to your senses, dozens and dozens of beady eyes watch with their tiny faces stretched out in a wide grin, before speaking in unison.

"Welcome, we can't wait to serve you!"

As the fairies erupt in raucous laughter all around you, at least one more thing is readily apparent: however you met your end, your body is completely whole again. You also have company at the table with you, although whether it's desirable company or not may depend on the circumstances surrounding your death.

In any case, there's nothing stopping anyone from leaving the dining room and roaming freely as usual, and most of the same areas that were available to you on the other side are still present here, albeit with some differences. And though your life may have been stolen from you, it still looks like you have a part in this tale, somehow, someway.

So, will you let your story finish here, or will you write your own ending?

Lucifer... What sort of a place?

My core. [ don't worry about what a core is, nbd. primal things. ]

However, I can't promise it will remain completely undetectable. A magnifying glass may be able to perceive it, but the same may be true of anywhere we try to hide it.

... That sounds rather uncomfortable...

[But, well, beggars can't be choosers nor look a gift horse in the mouth. Not that Lucifer is a horse. A crystal mule? Anyway.]

It's certainly better than simply stowing it in a bag and trying to sneak it past her. [how big even are these again] You will have to be rather more careful, as well.

[Don't go standing in any more fires with the crystal on you, that just seems like a bad idea.]

[ he's just looking thoughtful for a moment. ]

... The core is part of your person, Lucifer?

[ ... and if the answer is affirmative, well: ] How open are you to the idea of dying again?

[ it sounds like there is a plan here??? ]

[ ... such a casual mention of dying. he's surprised but, uh. hm. ]

It is. [ let him think, hm. after a second, he nods in decision! ] I'll do what I can to help.

[ CLOSES HIS EYES. this is not the best plan he can think of, but it's one that would probably work, maybe?????? shoutout to the rest of the catyard for helping to refine the plan, y'all mvps ]

We don't die permanently here - if we sustain serious enough injuries to die, we simply wake up in the dining room.

If you die here, with the crystal in your core, theoretically, it should reappear with you when you awaken. You bypass having to leave this place, and we get the crystal out of this place without having Ferry see it.

Theoretically. If it does not, I suppose the rest of you can come up with another plan.

[ since this is a serious topic and there's lots to discuss, they'll probably be at this for a while! eventually though... ]

[ he just kind of takes the crystal and places it into his core. what happens next, any traps? or maybe gins getting stabbity?? ]

Anyways nothing horrible happens, yay!

However, a cute little piece of origami comes drifting down from the sky??]

[Pericles will pick catch it with a claw, inspecting the insect origami carefully to see if there's anything suspicious before speaking.]

...and yes, he is holding off on the weird, incredibly strong urge to swallow it whole.]

[It's very cute and well made! However, when he flips it over it does seem like there's a bit of writing on it, but it's impossible to decipher without unfolding the thing entirely.]

[ Sure, she'll help the professor out, what else can go absolutely wrong today? ]

[He didn't really need the help, but he's thankful regardless! Precise work is a lot harder without opposable thumbs.]

[When they finish unfolding the paper, they'll see a message that says this:]

I can't imagine the point in taking my bottles of old sustenance, but you should stop. If this is meant to be a tantrum you won't get my attention by behaving like an ill-tempered brat. Forming a cellar full of the life of my children is pointless, now return to the store and focus on what you're supposed to be doing. I'm warning you only once, my dear.

[Ten seconds later, spiders erupt out of the pedestal.]

[He was about halfway through another ominous comment before HELLO CREATURES HE HAS STARTED TO HATE]

VHY IS IT ALWAYS SPITERS?!

[Flying away from that as fast as he can, paper probably getting misshapen from his claws gripping onto it so tightly, because seriously, f*ck that.]

[ Yuck! She won't be running away, but she'll go over and carry people's loot for them back to the dining hall that may have accidentally got left behind, maybe let Nageki carry the paper for her since she has so much stuff she's carrying around? ]

[ Wow, he hates this plan, but he can't exactly say anything considering his own actions? And now spiders. Today is a cursed day, but he won't run either so he can help Sami grab loot as well, not just the paper. Between them, they should be able to carry anything that might not be go with them when they revive. ]

Let's get going before more of these show up... We need time to get our story straight.

All right, I think that is our cue to go.

[Good thing he handed everyone who wanted one cherry bombs beforehand? He probably had enough. Either that or some of them will have to just stab themselves or something, but we're doing our best. Goodbye spiders we hardly knew ye.

Explosions time? Explosion time.

As for Jack himself, he's going out the old-fashioned way; he still has a few things on him that it would be a shame to blow up, so... Time to pull out a kitchen knife(!) and turn the blade. ☆]

[His time has come!

Once Lucifer agrees to the plan Gin steps up close to him, borrowed sword in hand, and only gives Lucifer a handful of moments to be ready before the blade meets his throat in a fast slicing motion.

No need to give any failsafe the chance to trigger on him while he has the crystal, after all.

It's barely moments after Lucifer starts to fall that Gin turns towards the nearest person, gives a quick laughing "good luck" and turns the blade on himself. He doesn't want Lucifer to return too much before he does, to avoid any other "problems" that may be lying in wait once they respawn.]

In that case, I would suggest sending someone with him as insurance. Meanwhile, those left here can handle Ferry and whatever may happen with the crystal...

Though, it wouldn't do to simply all walk out and say we lost the crystal down a gutter along the way, would it?

[Kind of droll, kind of semi-serious given what they're planning, but all the same.]
