End Game

The world is black. And then you blink at your plate.

A portion of your favorite dish greets your eyes, albeit in a form you may never have seen it in before. Encased in a thick, wobbling layer of multi-colored gelatin, the food you know and love now sits suspended in its protein-based enclosure as an eccentric re-imagining of the dish. Furthermore, it only takes a glance to see that the rest of the dining table's spread shares this same theme, as every single dish, sweet or savory, finds itself victim to a jiggling Jell-o jail.

Still, you won't have much time to take this all in before a quiet, high-pitched giggling makes its way to your ears, only crescendoing in volume the longer you sit in this oh-so-familiar dining room. It doesn't take much to find the source of the sound either; unlike the other side, this place is absolutely teeming with fairies to the point where the fluttering of their iridescent wings is clearly audible behind the din of their laughter. As you come to your senses, dozens and dozens of beady eyes watch with their tiny faces stretched out in a wide grin, before speaking in unison.

"Welcome, we can't wait to serve you!"

As the fairies erupt in raucous laughter all around you, at least one more thing is readily apparent: however you met your end, your body is completely whole again. You also have company at the table with you, although whether it's desirable company or not may depend on the circumstances surrounding your death.

In any case, there's nothing stopping anyone from leaving the dining room and roaming freely as usual, and most of the same areas that were available to you on the other side are still present here, albeit with some differences. And though your life may have been stolen from you, it still looks like you have a part in this tale, somehow, someway.

So, will you let your story finish here, or will you write your own ending?

FERRY Q&A

[Well, this is the fifth week they've sat through a meeting of sorts by now, so here's Ferry just sitting on their usual box and waving cheerily at (almost) everyone.]

Anyway, I'm sure you all recognize me by now, but I'm Ferry the shopkeeper! I've also been the one sending the letters over to the other side, too. Things are slowing coming to a close, but let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer!

Am I allowed to swear in letters

[The... most important question.]

[faentasy]

[There's just a couple of blinks that's just kind of. Bewildered here.]

...Yes?

[they're not here to censor anyone's filthy mouth, go and be your swearing self suga]

[Nods.]

[He's rude now.]

[A nod back. They sup...port you? Or like, at the least they won't censor that.]

Is there anything else you needed to ask?

[Headshake. He's good!]

[ Your neighborhood samidare here with another notecard full of questions. Are you ready, Ferry? ]

Hmm. So Ferry, when we get the last seal, what'll happen exactly? Do we go back right away or does it take time?

[faentasy]

[Questions!! Their favorite(?)]

It'll take some time for the magic to unravel, unfortunately... actually, I wanted to talk to everyone about that on Friday too, but maybe now's a good time?

Oh to add to that, would we get our powers back too or is that after the void-thing is gone kind of thing?

Well, they're all connected! Although their magic is now weakened some on this side, we'll still need them weakened further or dead to break through and then get everyone's powers back. However, only the living can really manage that right now; if you all went and tried to fight them, you'd just get yourselves killed.

So basically, we're reliant on them for killing it to even revive? [ Great. She shuffles through her notecard. ]

[faentasy]

[Nods, a little glumly.]

Well, if they weaken them enough then we could possibly manage to break through anyway, but they're going to need to do most of the work on their side.

Ah, hello -- Ferry, was it? -- it is a little unfortunate to be seeing you on this side, but as it seems to be almost an exact replica of the other side, it doesn't quite feel like a move at all...

Well, how has everything been lately? I don't believe we've had the chance to chat very much before.

[faentasy]

[There is like, so much side-eye going on here after that last trial, Jack. As a result, they just have their arms crossed as they watch him with a bit of a frigid gaze in those tiny brown eyes of theirs.]

Mm. I guess we haven't. Was there something you wanted to ask of me, or are you just making small talk?

[heroicact]

I've just been wondering what you were like -- here where you seem to ply most of your trade. I'm told that you are a wonderful presence for the dead, and they seem to like you well enough.

Or am I being treated differently because I am Hamelin's agent?

[He does notice that frigid stare, but all things considered, he has no idea if they do that to every less-than-stellarly wonderful murderer or individual that comes through here, or what.]

[faentasy]

[In fairness, everyone who wrecked their shop also got side-eyed too because fuck you stop murdering inside the store but it's true that Jack is also special in many ways!!

Either way, their demeanor still doesn't thaw even after the compliment(?) as they puff their cheeks up at the question.]

Hmph! I don't know what would give you that idea! But even if I was, are you saying I should treat an underling of Hamelin the same as the others here?

[heroicact]

[Look, he has never wrecked their shop and therefore has not seen the side-eye?? He is a good boy who does his murders outside and/or in empty mansions. He's polite that way!!!!

There's an amused look at the cheekpuff.]

Well, I wouldn't presume to tell you how to treat those under your authority -- which is all of us, including myself. But you can see why I would want to have a talk with you all the same, given that I will be here and under your care for the time being.

Do you and Hamelin not get along? I didn't get that impression from him.

[faentasy]

[It's true, that's one tiny thing they can appreciate maybe?! Or not because side-eye continues rip. Their eyes narrow a bit at that last line though.]

It's rude to talk about people behind their backs, you know. Anyway, he's threatened me before, so even if I don't know what he's said about me before, why should I like him?

[ well, since they’re busy answering samidare’s newest questionnaire, c-ta’s going to test the stone one more time.

this time, on ferry themselves. what does he see? just a fairy? ]

[faentasy]

[He sees... well, yes, mostly that actually. They're still in their usual appearance with short-cropped brown hair, purple butterfly wings and the brooch at their chest, but there's also a swarm of bluish sparkles around them that almost seems to obscure his sight every now and then because of how dense it is. Sometimes, it's almost just like looking at a pure white silhouette with how blinding some of these sparkles can get but it dies down quickly enough.]

[mearry]

[ well, that's... interesting to know? he can't help but feel like he was expecting something black void related, but he's relieved that it's not. he'll tell someone about this once this meeting is over.

but once samidare is done asking questions, he'll go up to them with the stone in hand. ]

Riku and I found this. Do you think it's useful?

[ feigning ignorance to see what ferry says! ]

[faentasy]

[They didn't seem to notice the impromptu peeking, so they just tilt their head when C-ta comes up with the stone.]

Um... I'm not sure. [They scrunch their face in confusion.] What is it?

[mearry]

Mm, not sure.

[ is it safe to tell them? hmm... ]

It seems to kinda work like a magnifying glass, but it doesn't break. But I'll ask around and get back to you if anyone knows?

[foxetious]

[After chatting with Samidare, Gin strolls over closer to Ferry for a quick question—]

Things are heatin’ up, we know who the traitors are, and there aren’t many livin’ left. Are we still sendin’ letters, and do we gotta code ‘em?

[It’s no skin off his nose either way, but knowledge is power and all that.]

I can still send some letters this week, if you want. But being coded... I guess that depends on what you want to send?
