End Game

The world is black. And then you blink at your plate.

A portion of your favorite dish greets your eyes, albeit in a form you may never have seen it in before. Encased in a thick, wobbling layer of multi-colored gelatin, the food you know and love now sits suspended in its protein-based enclosure as an eccentric re-imagining of the dish. Furthermore, it only takes a glance to see that the rest of the dining table's spread shares this same theme, as every single dish, sweet or savory, finds itself victim to a jiggling Jell-o jail.

Still, you won't have much time to take this all in before a quiet, high-pitched giggling makes its way to your ears, only crescendoing in volume the longer you sit in this oh-so-familiar dining room. It doesn't take much to find the source of the sound either; unlike the other side, this place is absolutely teeming with fairies to the point where the fluttering of their iridescent wings is clearly audible behind the din of their laughter. As you come to your senses, dozens and dozens of beady eyes watch with their tiny faces stretched out in a wide grin, before speaking in unison.

"Welcome, we can't wait to serve you!"

As the fairies erupt in raucous laughter all around you, at least one more thing is readily apparent: however you met your end, your body is completely whole again. You also have company at the table with you, although whether it's desirable company or not may depend on the circumstances surrounding your death.

In any case, there's nothing stopping anyone from leaving the dining room and roaming freely as usual, and most of the same areas that were available to you on the other side are still present here, albeit with some differences. And though your life may have been stolen from you, it still looks like you have a part in this tale, somehow, someway.

So, will you let your story finish here, or will you write your own ending?

Right. I don't know what I was expecting for Jack to be useful, McGillis probably is more likely to be the one with incriminating evidence, if not in Hamelin's office.

I truly don't know what you expected to find. I am also fairly sure McGillis would not have had anything incriminating? For one, he is far more careful than me.

Well, Miss Yuri isn't here, so there is no particular honor to defend, I suppose.

[Did he just drag Hamelin. Granted, honor is in short supply all around so it's possible he just dragged literally everyone aside from Yuri.]

But, I see. So that's how Ferry took those negotiations. Quite interesting.

[Raven's just been over here making a Face and trying not to snicker imagining what this drawing would have looked like.]

Ah. I think you'll recall that Alexei was particularly cross in that trial, so in order to make him appear less intimidating, I took inspiration from the nearest object.

[AKA the toadstool he was hiding behind.]

[Yeah this absolutely tracks for the graveyard. Raven's just learned to sit back and popcorn at the chaos.

Anyway he's thinking back to the trial...and nope he's failing at not snickering now. The one good thing to come out of that disaster day.]

I think ya gave him a mighty good reason ta be mad, ta be fair.

I gotta know, though: did it work?

Jack's smile curves a little because that sure was a thing, wasn't it.]

I did make some meager attempt to solve that case. I have no doubt that our peers on the other side would have been overjoyed to pin it onto me, otherwise.

[There's a more ironic edge to that smile, there and gone. It's back to joking for real.]

I'd say it worked well enough. I only ran away from him for a few days.

Eh, I think you're givin' 'em way too much credit ta be that bloodthirsty. We'd been speculatin' traitors fer weeks but I don't think any actual accusations got thrown around, did they?

[That might've changed this week but. Shrugs in graveyard.]

As embarrassin' as it was fer Alexei, he probably welcomed that distraction, though.

[It took some of the heat off of Raven for a time.]

Oh, it is not out of bloodthirst, but simply expediency and a desire for survival. We have been voting others to be killed all this time -- it's a perfectly acceptable model through which to get rid of anyone undesirable.

With Edelgard and Tenn leading them about, I've no doubt they will do whatever is deemed necessary.

[You'd think it would be bitter or even ironic, but it's perfectly matter-of-fact, if said with a slightly sharper smile.]

As for Alexei, I will say that he seemed to bear no grudge. An interesting fellow to the last.
