End Game

The world is black. And then you blink at your plate.

A portion of your favorite dish greets your eyes, albeit in a form you may never have seen it in before. Encased in a thick, wobbling layer of multi-colored gelatin, the food you know and love now sits suspended in its protein-based enclosure as an eccentric re-imagining of the dish. Furthermore, it only takes a glance to see that the rest of the dining table's spread shares this same theme, as every single dish, sweet or savory, finds itself victim to a jiggling Jell-o jail.

Still, you won't have much time to take this all in before a quiet, high-pitched giggling makes its way to your ears, only crescendoing in volume the longer you sit in this oh-so-familiar dining room. It doesn't take much to find the source of the sound either; unlike the other side, this place is absolutely teeming with fairies to the point where the fluttering of their iridescent wings is clearly audible behind the din of their laughter. As you come to your senses, dozens and dozens of beady eyes watch with their tiny faces stretched out in a wide grin, before speaking in unison.

"Welcome, we can't wait to serve you!"

As the fairies erupt in raucous laughter all around you, at least one more thing is readily apparent: however you met your end, your body is completely whole again. You also have company at the table with you, although whether it's desirable company or not may depend on the circumstances surrounding your death.

In any case, there's nothing stopping anyone from leaving the dining room and roaming freely as usual, and most of the same areas that were available to you on the other side are still present here, albeit with some differences. And though your life may have been stolen from you, it still looks like you have a part in this tale, somehow, someway.

So, will you let your story finish here, or will you write your own ending?

Where's Suga when you need him...

[ well...he'll wipe his feet, sure. he holds his sword with one hand as he approaches...the crowd of people. ]

If I knew we'd be finding ghosts, I'd have come prepared. Most can't do much physical, I think...

[Rika is going to check the desk first and wait to chime in with the crowd until she gets confirmation that they can speak.]

[Yor is just going to be on standby with iron daggers at the ready exuding do not fuck with these children vibes.]

[The desk! It's so large, and so exquisite, Rika. It's the sort of antique a lot of people would appreciate.

On top of the desk there are many materials. Fabric, straw, a menagerie of random-looking objects, small clothes, threads of all colors and lengths.

No sewing needles, though. That's the only thing missing.

All these objects don't have not even a bit of dust on them.

To a side of the desk there are two drawers: a thin one and a much larger one]

[Why don't we work our way up to the fuckery--let's check the thin drawer to start off!]

[Ah, the thin drawer first! What secrets does it have?

When Rika opens the door she'll find one single thing: a folder. A folder chock full of papers, it seems. It's neatly archived, everything here carefully placed inside the folder.

There's no label on the cover]

[Hello! Perfect thing to snoop into! There are things written on these papers, she assumes?]

[Oh, there's written things, but most of it are drawings.

Sketches, in fact. Sketches of fairies.

Judging by the scale to one side the drawings here are real size -- and indeed, the size fits the fairies that fill graveyard and mock people. They're all quite cute, really. Most of them have big X on them, showing they're discarded. A few have circles around features of them -- this style of wings, this sort of hair, should they have visible eyes or not, etc.

Notes on the margins seem to be general musings. None of them is particularly interesting, but the general idea Rika will get from them is that every single design is based on real fairies in other worlds.

Looks like someone is not a creative person. Copying and replicating is her job.

Ah...so someone made those creatures.

[Rika's gonna check more papers. Though, she has to wonder...do any of these sketches look like Ferry?]

[Remarkably enough, none of these look like Ferry!

More and more designs are seen. There aren't any margins anymore, looks like by now the parts of the fairies were being mixed and match to try to figure out the aesthetic, until a result was reached, if the large circle around it is any indication.

This one fits all fairies that aren't Ferry.

There are just a few papers more.]

[Rika gives a tiny hum of recognition seeing the default fairy design. Now then, what are these last few papers?]

[Ah, let's see...

So! Looks like these ones are more fairy designs, but unlike the other ones, every single one of these has a X. Nothing about them works. There's only about a dozen or so.

Something's written on the corner of the last piece of paper]

[Well, if the fairies were ugly it'd be too easy to be mean to them. Half the people here are bullies.

But hey! What's this say?]

[faentasy]

["She says she’ll know the customers best, so she’ll handle her appearance herself".

That's all in this drawer!]

[faentasy]

[Come closer, C-ta.

Looks like this side of the workshop isn't so well illuminated. He won't be able to see what's going on unless he gets real close, it seems.

...but none of them move when he approaches, even though he has a lethal weapon at hand.

Come closer, C-ta, it'll be fine]

[mearry]

[ he won't get closer, actually. not yet.

with his free hand, he'll take the adder stone out and look. tell him your secrets. ]

[faentasy]

[Secrets!

It's a little strange. The people are still there, but when he looks he'll see the outlines of some rather varied objects floating there, in the center of every single figure. C-ta won't be able to distinguish them due to the lack of illumination, but each one of them is shining to the adder stone.

None of these people move]

he puts the adder stone back in his pocket.

walks closer. ]

[When C-ta walks closer he'll be able to see through the shadows. Well, only the figure closer to him, though. The rest are somewhat visible, but may as well talk about the one closest to him.

Hi, C-ta, say hi to your boyfriend. This sure is Koutarou Suga, life-size, a perfect replica of him. If you didn't know better you'd think he somehow teleported here and was waiting, sitting down here.

Except this has buttons instead of eyes. Neat!]

[ it really takes everything in his power to not slash the doll as soon as he sees it. mostly out of fear, but there's definitely some anger in there as well. how disgusting. how vile. terrifying. cruel. cruel. cruel cruel cruel cruel cruel cruel cruel--

but he doesn't.

he'll put the sword away. and use the adder stone on that fake suga. can he see the shining thing any better? ]

[Look into the life-size doll, C-ta!

Right in the core of it he'll see...a piece of jewelry. One that looks identical to the ones Suga usually makes.

Neat!]

[ well before his blood reaches the boiling point he's going to look LITERALLY FUCKING ELSEWHERE.

more dolls? ]

[Oh yes, more dolls. Look! Right beside Suga there's Jack Vessalius. Then there's Raven, Morgan, Junko, and if the size of that one between those two is any indication, that must be Pericles.

All of them with buttons instead of eyes, but they're all pretty dang well crafted. Perfect in every way, really!

By logic it's likely the rest of the dolls, still unseen, correspond to everyone else in the graveyard. None of them seem to be for someone alive]

fine. he'll try to keep his anger at a normal amount for now. he'll take one of them--let's say raven's. hesitantly, he'll touch it. how does it feel? ]

[It's an odd texture, C-ta. It feels like a middle point between fabric and flesh. It's unnerving, really. Looks completely realistic in appearance, though!

While he's touching the doll, though, he'll feel such an odd sensation on his fingertips. Want to press on? It'll be alright, no bold warnings]
