End Game

The world is black. And then you blink at your plate.

A portion of your favorite dish greets your eyes, albeit in a form you may never have seen it in before. Encased in a thick, wobbling layer of multi-colored gelatin, the food you know and love now sits suspended in its protein-based enclosure as an eccentric re-imagining of the dish. Furthermore, it only takes a glance to see that the rest of the dining table's spread shares this same theme, as every single dish, sweet or savory, finds itself victim to a jiggling Jell-o jail.

Still, you won't have much time to take this all in before a quiet, high-pitched giggling makes its way to your ears, only crescendoing in volume the longer you sit in this oh-so-familiar dining room. It doesn't take much to find the source of the sound either; unlike the other side, this place is absolutely teeming with fairies to the point where the fluttering of their iridescent wings is clearly audible behind the din of their laughter. As you come to your senses, dozens and dozens of beady eyes watch with their tiny faces stretched out in a wide grin, before speaking in unison.

"Welcome, we can't wait to serve you!"

As the fairies erupt in raucous laughter all around you, at least one more thing is readily apparent: however you met your end, your body is completely whole again. You also have company at the table with you, although whether it's desirable company or not may depend on the circumstances surrounding your death.

In any case, there's nothing stopping anyone from leaving the dining room and roaming freely as usual, and most of the same areas that were available to you on the other side are still present here, albeit with some differences. And though your life may have been stolen from you, it still looks like you have a part in this tale, somehow, someway.

So, will you let your story finish here, or will you write your own ending?

[Forest door, let's go! When they make their way inside, it opens up to a long hallway with a similar theme: lush greenery surrounds them and some of the branches higher up also even seem to protrude from the ice walls, making a gorgeous canopy of sculpted leaves above them. With that said, there's nothing much to really note until they get to the end of the corridor, which seems to have a mural painted onto the walls.]

[ whoever crafted this canopy is truly skilled. lucifer will stay and admire it for a time, leaving the mural to the other two. ]

[Luci plz. There isn't anything to even find up there! It looks nice though, with the light from outside giving it the effect of sunlight filtering between the trees.]

[oversaw]

[ sami is here to help with puzzles so he's free to look around at his leisure...! he'll stay here even if there's nothing to look at. ]

[ Okay? Well, nothing new, Mister Lucifer is always like this, so mural it is! What's depicted on it? ]

[Jack will admire the mural a little too! Does it look at all like any of the forests around here or maybe the one he saw back in the tower?

Aesthetic aside, he’ll wander over to the mural eventually and consider it with Nageki. This ice maze is so different…]

[ She'll go see the mural, and see if there's anything around it too. Like what's supposed to go into that door in the middle. Though she's sure they gotta solve the puzzle first! ]

[There's nothing around here that looks like it could fit inside that cavity for the central door! The place is pretty empty, besides the mural.

Anyways, the mural itself is richly painted, with an elegance that befits the serene atmosphere of the room. Indeed, it is so sublime that it could probably bring grown men to tears upon witnessing it. Here is a vague approximation of what it looks like.

There's also an inscription written below it: YOU HAVE TRESPASSED, BUT YOU CAN STILL BE FORGIVEN. WILL YOU NOT TURN BACK?]

[ After some very lively discussion and debate, time to finally make their guess! ]

Hmm, maybe it's "I do not long for death by conflagration"?

[ Worth a try at least. ]

Well... done?

[There is something ironic about this particular bird saying those words, but Jack does not point this out!!]

[I fucked up here by not pluralizing so this works /o/

But hurray! Once Nageki speaks that aloud, a small pedestal with a round green gem on it appears right in front of the mural.]

[ Okay. Picking it up and waiting for said conflagration. She'll be ready to run if needed...! ]

[The moment Samidare picks up the gem, the entire hallway bursts into flames, save for the small area in front of the mural. The orange flames are unpleasant but it seems like they're unavoidable if they want to escape the corridor.]

[ fortunately, the puzzle seems to have been solved! unfortunately, lucifer never once stopped admiring the room so he's now quite literally on fire.

and seems to have no idea what to do for like, a solid few seconds?? he is on fire. fire is happening? fire is happening?? he's probably closest to the other end of the room but he very dearly looks like he wants to run over to the group for a solid few seconds to ensure their safety. since at least one of them seems to be mostly fire-free and he's kind of an obstacle, he will regretfully sprint the other way and probably flap his burning wings to try and speed himself up.

brb trying to put himself out!! ]

Lucifer! Drop to the floor and roll about!

[That's about all the advice Jack can give him just at the moment since he's busy making sure:

1. Nageki isn't on fire, why this.
2. Sami hasn't sprinted into the fire. She probably hasn't but it's always best to be sure about these things.

Once everyone is secured and/or smoking and/or less actively on fire: he'll sigh, unscrew one of the Christmas baubles he's carrying, take out a literal cherry bomb from it and then throw all the leftover salt inside the glass over the fire.

Will this even do anything.]

[ Wtf is this fresh hell they've gotten themselves into? Well, she'll put the gem securely in the bag and grab a salty water bottle to spray and try to throw the contents at Lucifer?? It's definitely not enough but...!]

Um, Nageki-kun, stay back against the wall..!

I'll try, but worry more about yourself--

[ Okay time to put his bag as absolutely far away from the fire as it can be, considering how much flammable stuff he has inside! He's not about to try using those, but he will try to throw salt as well? Water would be absolutely nice right now, but even if they did bring any, they wouldn't have enough for all this... So here's hoping all this salt does something? ]

Should we put the gem back...?

[The water, salt and bomb are nice and all, but this is a pretty big fire so while the force of the explosion might push away some of the flames, they'll come roaring back in no time.

Also the fire seems to be changing to look brighter as time passes. It was orange originally, although now it's starting to look more yellowy.

Hm.]

[oversaw]

[ hm indeed...! unfortunately this is pretty lost on lucifer, who is still on fire and being told to... roll?? roll? roll.

he has never once in his life dropped to the floor and rolled around. as normal as the request is, it's a tad daunting under these very specific circumstances. he continues flapping, which... helps? sami's water helps too. ]

... I'll figure something out. Please focus on yourselves.

[ Okay!! Well. First they should get this gem to safety right? So she'll get the slingshot that she wasn't going to use for herself before and use it for the gem. ]

Lucifer-san! Catch!

[ She waits until she's sure he's heard her and ready for it. Then she pulls back the gem and aims it towards at him...! ]

[oversaw]

[ ?? catch?

she has his attention, however divided it is. ]

Sami—?

[ thankfully, the gem reaches and he manages to catch it!! give him a moment and he will nod and rush over to the middle area. please be safe in the meantime, all of you!! ]

I understand. I'll come back for you. [ brb for real ]

[The gem is safely in Lucifer's hands, hurray!




The hallway continues to burn.]
